That’s why it’s surprising that Nintendo Switch offers so few Star Wars game titles. That said, the ones that do exist are pretty fantastic. Whether it’s a LEGO game, an RPG or a first-person shooter, the Star Wars games by Nintendo Switch consistently offer captivating storylines, varied and fantastic game mechanics, and all the quality touches that make a game an immersive experience. However, not all Star Wars games are created equal, so I’ve hand-picked the ones I think are the best based on my experience playing these on my Switch. I made sure to list recent releases, LEGO alternatives and games from back in the early 2000s – the older ones have legions of fans who keep returning to rediscover their magic!

I shortlisted three that fit our main three categories for games: the best option for those on a budget, the best game for younger gamers and my top pick for older kids. Don’t despair if you didn’t find what you were looking for in my top three picks above, as there are more options below for Star Wars fans who are more into arcade games or FPS games. So, let’s get to it. Check out the full list below, and may the force of good decision-making be with you!

1. Best for Younger Gamers: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The LEGO games offer a relaxing, humorous and child-friendly entry point to beloved franchises like Harry Potter and Jurassic Park. Now Star Wars gets the treatment, and it’s the most spectacular and immersive LEGO game yet! Players get to adventure through all nine Star Wars films and can explore all the planets whenever they like.

What We Love:

❤️ Offers a good balance of guidance and freedom to explore❤️ There are loads of cool characters to unlock and play as❤️ It’s packed with humor and entertaining storytelling elements

What We Don’t Love:

💔 It is a little glitchy at times💔 It’s more complex than previous LEGO games, which may not suit all players

2. Best for Older Gamers: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

In many ways, the early aughts were a golden age in Star Wars gaming. Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003 but remains one of the most layered and captivating games Star Wars has ever released. With a mechanic that’s part RPG, part turn-based strategy game, it will get your mind whirring while still keeping you utterly immersed. Knights of the Old Republic is one of those games that’s not meant to be played just once. It offers excellent replay value with many side quests to complete, strategies to attempt, and different narrative pathways to uncover!

What We Love:

❤️ Features a compelling storyline and fantastic character development❤️ Excellent graphics and breathtaking environments❤️ Great balance of immersive RPG and strategic turn-based combat

What We Don’t Love:

💔 It’s an older game and hasn’t been upgraded or remastered💔 Combat can feel a little clunky as it is turn-based

3. Best Budget Option: Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection

While many re-releases of older Star Wars games are pricey due to their limited runs, this not only comes at a low price but includes two games in one! This purchase will get you both Star Wars Jedi Knight II games — Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. Although the graphics can initially seem outdated to modern players, the intuitive gameplay and immersive storyline will soon sweep you away. With both these games in your arsenal, you’ll enjoy solo gameplay and multiplayer online mode. You can have fun customizing your character, engaging in epic battles and ultimately saving the galaxy!

What We Love:

❤️ Great value as you get two games in one❤️ The controls are smooth, and the gameplay feels intuitive❤️ Classic games with a great storyline and fun battles

What We Don’t Love:

💔 These are pretty old games, so kids may not be impressed by the graphics💔 It can feel a little sluggish compared to contemporary games

4. Star Wars Republic Commando

Though it debuted in 2005, Republic Commando is widely considered far ahead of its time. Ditching the lightsabers for guns, this is a first-person shooter game focused on infantry battles. You’ll lead a team of elite clone commandos, each with unique skills. So there’s a lot of strategy and heart-thumping battles involved! While the focus is on the intense battles, they are woven through a compelling storyline with a cast of well-rounded characters. Its peaks and valleys of frenetic fight scenes and quieter moments make it very engaging, especially for experienced players.

What We Love:

❤️ Combat is epic, as it is both highly tactical and adrenaline-pumping❤️ Great storyline and well-developed characters❤️ Super immersive thanks to the excellent voice acting and atmospheric settings

What We Don’t Love:

💔 Some gamers may find it frustrating as it is very challenging💔 Quite pricey for a re-release of an older game

5. Star Wars Pinball

Looking for an arcade game with a Star Wars flavor rather than something complex? Then Star Wars Pinball is the way to go. Pinball may be a simple game, but the wealth of different tables, gameplay modes and features here means there’s never a dull moment. You will keep returning to beat the game in every corner of the galaxy! As it genuinely feels like you’re playing the classic arcade game, pinball fans will love this game. At the same time, there are so many great details to delight Star Wars fans, even if they don’t usually go for pinball!

What We Love:

❤️ Includes tons of pinball tables that all offer something fresh❤️ Gameplay feels like the real thing while providing lots to keep Star Wars fans engaged❤️ Huge variety of modes and bonus features

What We Don’t Love:

💔 Some players may find it repetitive after a while💔 The voiceovers leave something to be desired

The Force Unleashed is another excellent option for those who like a challenge. It’s also super atmospheric and immersive, thanks to the spectacular environments, beautiful music and fantastic voice acting. And those that want to play with the dark side, this one’s for you as you play as Darth Vader’s “secret apprentice”! This is another epic adventure of a Star Wars game, with a compelling narrative, fascinating corners of the galaxy to explore and exhilarating battles. These are especially fun as you can customize your lightsabers and unleash force powers in story mode and multiplayer duels!
